The Loud Pants

Remember those printed pants from my May budget? I finally wore them! They're a tighter fit, so I balanced them with a longer tank, cardigan, and some professional looking flats. They were kindly referred to as my loud pants (at least I hope it was kindly!), but looking at the picture, I almost wish I would've really gone loud and paired them with the coral shoes from this post. :)  Because I'm awful about putting clothes away, over the weekend I grabbed the tank again and gave it a casual weekend spin instead, which was perfect for errands and lunch with my husband.

Attempt at Dressing to Impress

DSC01742
shirt: Kohl's, tank & shoes: Target, pants: New York & Co.

This was an outfit I wore last Thursday when I was supposed to have a quick one-on-one with our new dean of students. I promise that I put much more thought into what I would say than what I would wear, but I did put some thought into the outfit too. I really liked it with the leopard print heels I had paired it with because they have more black in them than these flats, but ended up changing because I just didn't have the energy for heels - you know those days! I passed our dean early in the day and she complimented me on my shirt, then our meeting got pushed back to the next day after I played volleyball in our lunchtime league in 95 degree heat. That'll teach me!

Staying Cool

DSC01741
tee: Walmart, necklace: gift, skirt: Kohl's, shoes: Payless

This ridiculously hot weather has made me want to just pair a different skirt with a different t-shirt every day. Thank goodness for accessories! The benefit to that is that I've had zero desire to go shopping, except maybe for new t-shirt options. :) How are you staying stylish while staying cool?!

Enjoying Summer

DSC01737
tee/sweater/shoes: Old Navy, pants: Target, necklace: JCPenney
I love layers, but I have to admit that this cardigan wasn't a part of this outfit until I got into the building I work in this morning, then after walking about a mile total to go to lunch and back I never cooled down enough to put it back on the rest of the afternoon! As much as I dislike summer weather, I had a moment walking across our small little campus today that I actually enjoyed it for a minute. Sure it was uncomfortably hot, but it wasn't just the heat that made it feel like summer. It smelled like summer (maybe someone was cutting the grass nearby?) and even sounded like summer with what I assumed was noisy cicadas. Good enough to slow my rushed pace down a bit and give myself a little bit of extra time to enjoy it!

Oh! And just in case anyone was curious, here's what I wore to the baseball game last week...

Look Over Here!

Hey everyone - I'm taking the day off from work and posting to celebrate my husbands' birthday! We have tickets to a baseball game for this afternoon that we got through the company he works for. I'm sure we'll spend some time with some of his co-workers, so  I'll be stressing out about what on earth to wear to a baseball game in hot and humid Ohio in July while still managing to look somewhat appropriate. Not that I tend to overexpose, but let's be real - I want to wear shorts and a tank top today and I just feel like I'll feel way out of place next to a bunch of people coming to the game right from the office! So while I'm busy over-analyzing that, how about you go check me out over at Ada's blog since she was kind enough to feature me in her Meet and Greet series. While you're there, spend some time getting to know Ada and her beautiful daughter Vivian too!

The Perfect Layer

edited
necklace: gift, tee: Target, jacket: Sam's Club, pants: New York & Co., shoes: Old Navy

This blazer I found at Sam's Club is quite possibly the best $10 I've ever spent. It's super comfortable because the material is stretchy, it adds some professionalism to an outfit, and it's perfect for layering in hot weather with chilly air conditioning (not that I'm complaining about needing to do that!). I think I've only paired it with pants, but plan to branch out a bit and pair it with some skirts or dresses in the near future!

Personality

DSC01722
shirt: Old Navy, pants: Kohl's, shoes: Kmart

Fun shoes can make all the difference in an outfit, am I right?! When the weather is too warm to rely much on wearing layers, it's one of my favorite ways to show some personality. For this outfit, I didn't stop there and added black pants with a lace design on them plus a statement necklace that of course you can't really see!

Linking up...

Lately

summer collage

I guess I took a vacation? It felt good, I have to admit. For the past 2 weeks I've had cousins visiting from California. There was a lot of bouncing around between Columbus and my parents house in Northwest Ohio, and even a trip to Northeast Ohio to visit our aunt. I tend to let my emotions get the best of me, and had a hard time visiting our aunt. She's had a lot of health issues and this trip made me realize that she's in so much pain that she's not able to enjoy her favorite things anymore. Her garden has been cleared and grass re-planted in its' place, her piano donated, screened in porch that she and I spent so many summer nights enjoying is no longer in use. But the saddest part was her arranging to have my cousin take her dog back to California because she's reaching a point where she's not mobile enough to give him as good of care as she had previously been able to. Getting old is a bitch indeed!
