Return of the Maxi Skirt

tee: Old Navy, skirt: thrifted, shoes: Kohl's, scarf: can't remember, but maybe World Market?

bracelets: Urban Ava in Tipp City, Ohio

I think this skirt is the most documented piece of clothing on this blog, which is exactly why I want another one! In today’s version, I feel like hippy-ish (yes, I just made that word up), but more dressed up. Maybe it’s the long skirt, the earthy feel of the scarf, and the leaf bracelets. Whatever it is, I think I like it!

My Shopping List

sorry for the tilted camera...oops!

tee: Target, vest: Forever 21, scarf: Old Navy, jeans: thrifted, shoes: Kohl's
You guys, I totally stole this look from Jessica Alba that was pictured in People Style Watch. Can you blame me?!

This shopping ban has made me think what things items would truly be a good addition to my closet, rather than just buying whatever catches my eye in the store. I started a list in my phone and here's what it looks like:

- slouchy black tee
- slouchy white tee (is slouchy really a word??)
- colorful belts from Forever 21
- some fun silver bracelets (my husband got me a silver watch for our anniversary and I'm    realizing most of my every day bracelets are gold!)
- another maxi skirt or dress

The black tee was added to the list this morning after searching for what felt like forever for one, to find only this old one that really needs to be retired to workout wear. I have a hunch that doing some laundry will likely lead to finding a few more and maybe I'll take it off the list. :) Either way, I'm happy to say that none of those items should set me back much, but I'll have to promise not to run out and buy them all at once.

I Need Another Weekend

shirt: Kohl's, jeans/shoes: Target

This weekend was so busy that this is the first chance I've gotten to show you Friday's outfit. Work was miserable last week. So miserable that I'm cringing at the thought of going back tomorrow morning, so I'll focus on all the fun I had this weekend!

Friday night we met up with some friends to have our beer of the month for this beer tour type thing we're all doing at a local brewery. It's always a good reason to get everyone together! Saturday we ran with our training group, then spent the rest of the day at a state park hanging out with my in-laws. We played cornhole, went canoeing, and played disc golf. My brother and his girlfriend happened to be camping at the same park, so we got to see them too. We had fun, but by the time we left I was exhausted! One of my aunt's is in town from California, so today I met her for lunch, then spent the rest of the day preparing for one of my cousins from California to come into town this weekend with his family. I wish I could have a day off to recover from my weekend! I hope everyone had a great weekend too!

Sticking To It

tee: Old Navy, necklace and shoes: Target, jeans: Walmart

The half-tuck looks a little more sloppy than cute today. Eh. Next time! :) Can I brag for a minute and let you guys know that I have officially completed 3 weeks of my 4 week shopping ban? I even went to a dentist appointment just a few doors down from Old Navy and to the mall tonight to pick up something from GNC and still held strong. Never mind that I strategically parked to not have to go anywhere near Forever 21.  I held strong...

On Repeat

tee: Five Below, scarf: World Market, belt: Forever 21, pants: thrifted (for $1!!!), shoes: Kohl's

You know those days where things just don't go your way? Here's my solution - I shed a few tears while calling my mom and she let me have my pity party. Even though I wanted to crawl into bed and call it a day, I got my ass out there for the 3 mile run that my training plan said I needed to do in order to have any chance of crossing the finish line of that marathon in October. (If my training schedule would've told me to do anymore than 3 miles, I may not have had the same reaction...haha)

Now to focus on my outfit. I have so many plain tees in my wardrobe! I repeated a look from last week by adding a scarf and a belt (just placed differently this time) again. I went with red pants to feel a little dressier, plus there's just something I like about animal print paired with red!

Ouch

dress: thrifted, vest/shoes: Target, belt: Kohl's

I really love these shoes with this outfit, but they sure were a bad idea today. It's been awhile since I've worn them and even with some inserts, they end up being pretty uncomfortable by the end of the day. I felt like I constantly was walking back and forth from my office to the copier, so that didn't help! Too bad I didn't have a pedometer to track that distance. That would've been the perfect accessory, don't you think? :)

Keeping It Real

tee: Old Navy, jeans: Target, shoes: Kohl's, hat: gift

I think my personal style has come a long way since starting this blog, but some days this is as good as it gets, and I'm ok with that. :)

A Simple Friday

shirt: Target, tank: Old Navy, jeans: Gap, shoes: Payless, watch: Kohl's

strategically posing to hide the massive blemish that took over my chin. sigh.

Had to show an up close shot of this bracelet I love from Urban Ava in Tipp City, Ohio

I kept my outfit simple because I’m not sure I could’ve handled too much thought being put into anything today. I will say though, I’m in love with Gap jeans. These things were just as comfortable after margaritas and way more queso than anyone should eat as they were all day today. That may be a little bit miraculous.

Weekend?

tee/jeans/shoes: Target, belt: Old Navy, scarf: Giant Eagle Market District

I don’t think it’s a good sign when within 10 minutes of time, one person tells you that you look really tired, and another asks if you’re ok. I am so incredibly ready for the weekend! I remember back in college and the few years after we graduated when we treated Thursday night like a weekend night. We’d go out, have a good time, stay out late. Tonight I plan to go enjoy some drinks with my husband, but still be in bed for the 10pm bedtime my adult self has set. :)

In other news – I’m on a shopping ban! I’ve contemplated it for awhile, but when Kirsten declared herself on one, I decided to hop on board with the challenge. I’ve made it two weeks now without shopping for myself! I’ve been a little afraid to mention it on here for fear of jinxing myself, because I’ve been doing really well! I think the marathon training has kept me busy enough most nights after work, that I haven’t been able to go shopping anyway! It has been forcing me to analyze what I really truly want to add to my wardrobe though. I’ll share what ends up on my shopping list when the ban ends on June 28th!

Flashback

tee: Target, belt & skirt: thrifted, shoes & watch: Kohl's

This is actually an outfit I wore last week. That day I went with a friend to help her wedding dress shop and then out to dinner. We were having so much fun that I didn't get home until a little after 10pm and wanted my bed more than I wanted outfit pictures. :) Today I figured I'd recreate it - I really like mixing browns and blacks as long as its more tan than brown! Are there any other fashion "rules" you like to break?

Back At It

shirt: Walmart, belt: Target, skirt: thrifted, shoes: Clothes Mentor
(It started raining harder and I was not interested in sticking around long enough to get another picture with my entire head in it...haha)

I’m back! Work and life got in the way of me posting consistently last week. I do hope you missed me! :)

I feel a little bit back to my normal self today in fun heels and a skirt. Stepping on the scale this morning made me realize that no matter how much I run, it’s still not an excuse to eat a whole bag of Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos in one weekend or to over-indulge in two of my favorites, bread and cheese. (Why does Trader Joe's have to have such good cheeses?!) This shirt was chosen for its forgiving nature, and the belt gives some contrast while playing into the colors of my shoes. Here’s to showing some self control this week!

Reunion

tanks/clutch: Target, jeans: Shoppers World, shoes: Kohls, necklace: thrifted

There’s something about a high school reunion that just made me want to step it up a bit and really look my best. So vain, but so true for me. Three of us that graduated together and now live in the same city decided to turn it into a girl’s night because we didn’t feel like forcing our guys to go. I took advantage of our ride running late and took some outfit pictures at my parents’ house. I took a few things into consideration when choosing my outfit. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, graduated with only about 100 people, and our reunion was at a bar on the river on the edge of a campground. A dress and heels would’ve been doing way too much, but I decided that a cute tank, colored denim and wedges were just enough effort. I’m so glad I took the time to go! I had a great time hanging out with some friends I’m still close to but don’t see as often as I used to, and got to see some people I haven’t seen since the day we graduated too!

Plain Jane (Or Jess I Guess)

jeans/sweater: Gap outlet, tee: Five Below, shoes: Target, necklace: Urban Ava (boutique in Tipp City, OH)

I really wanted to wear my red jeans today, but had a meeting today that it just wouldn't be appropriate to wear red jeans to, not even on a Friday. Sulking this morning, I went for a black tee and flats, jeans, and a cardigan. A little boring, a little plain, but you can always count on black. Last minute I realized I could add this necklace that I bought almost a month ago and still hadn't worn to give the outfit a little more personality.

I hope everyone has a great weekend planned! I have my 10 year high school reunion tomorrow night. It'll be fun to see the girls I'm still close to and should be interesting to see some people I haven't seen since the day we graduated!
